Trout Action

This committee has the responsibility of working closely with business organizations and local and state officials in the long-term development of the Deerfield River Watershed as a prime New England blue ribbon trout fishing resource. Current initiatives include:

  • Conducting an economic impact survey of fly anglers utilizing local guide services.
  • Working with the Environmental Police to help enforce angling laws notably poaching.
  • Working with Mass Fish & Wildlife to create sanctuaries for trout by restricting angling within 100 feet of cold water tributaries during the hot summer months of July and August.
  • Working with Mass Fish and Wildlife to eliminate the use of Powerbait (which DRWTU considers to be no different from live bail) on the Deerfield where live bait is banned.
